Coffee Pot references what goes in the Majlis “gathering of groups that have interest in discussing subjects” This is popular in the Middle East and Persian Gulf region. The pot is tilted and pouring coffee references our hospitality to anyone that joins us. The R made into a cup shows we are open to receive all point of views with an open mind.

Schools juggling Obama speech

Why are we afraid of education? Is it because when our kids have education they become better leaders in our society? Or is it a future president might be among them that can be affiliated with one party or another? Or is it because this is America the land of the free, hence we choose to have our kids fail and lag behind industrial nations?
The overblown debate about The President of the United States speaking directly to our kids is without merits. How could anyone truly debate or form an opinion regarding words he has not spoken or even read the transcript of his speech.
After reading the speech transcript on Monday (September 07, 2009), I was truly shocked about President Obama and his choice of words, shame on you Mr. President for telling our kids that education matter and how dare he tell our kids that each and every one of them has something to offer to his country.
I have to agree with North Gibson County Superintendents (Tom Miller) not podcasting the speech; the speech is full of political agendas which I will give examples of:
1) President talks about the important of education to our kids; he must be pushing
his education policy. OR encouraging them to stay in school?
2) President talks about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who’s fought brain
cancer but still overcoming it and now he is going to college, this is defiantly a push
for his health care reform. OR giving example of working hard no matter what
obstacle life throws at you?
3) Let’s not forget when President mentions Jazmin Perez from Roma Texas and not
speaking English but she worked hard to get education and will be Dr. Perez. This is
for sure a push towards immigration issues OR is it another example of working
hard to reach ones goal?

To our educators who fails to see that an important figure, a person that the majority (I would hope ALL is the answer) of our children know who he is, will be speaking directly to them and gives them encouraging words about the importance of education, should take this opportunity as a positive step and build on it. We should give thanks to Tom Shelton the superintendent from Daviess County who is taken this opportunity to build lesson plans around it. Tom Shelton is a true educator in my view.
I can think of few things I can do after the speech, how about encourage our school kids to “write” (this might be a new word for few educators) about their future goals OR have an exercise of asking the class to come up with different ways they think they can improve education and make learning FUN. How about send their input to the President after a healthy debate in class regarding his speech. At minimum our educators could talk about the different branches of the government and the importance of each branch after the speech.
To quote the President: “So today, I want to ask you, what’s your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?” I think these questions are for all of us not just our kids.

Let us encourage our future generation to Dream Big and Work Hard to reach their dreams and goals while we support them along the way.

EVSC and Artificial turf; real beauty

On Aug 22, 2009 Evansville Courier & Press published an article titled: “Artificial turf; real beauty”
Link provided below:
http://www.courierpress.com/news/2009/aug/21/artificial-turf-real-beauty

On June 3, 2007, Vincent Bertram (EVSC Superintendent) said his Harvard experience showed him how "education policy decisions have long-term consequences for children." Also on March 17, 2008 he said "Educating all children to high levels requires a community effort."
I fail to see how spending $800K on fake grass that last only 10 years ($80K/Year) is a step forward towards education!

While the five $1,500 scholarships recently awarded to EVSC high school graduates who are furthering their education are a great reward for those kids; we just showed them though that spending more on fake grass supersede their future.
EVSC could have spent the $80k/year wisely such as awarding a full scholarships to high school graduates who excel not only academically but in sports, what a great news article that would been seeing for example 8 of our future kids have a $10K scholarship. OR, not charging the $70/year for the new Netbooks, or hiring more teachers. Instead I read about $800K fake grass and how it will be green in October!

Well the grass will not be greener when the US slips again in ranking in science, math and reading. On August 18th, 2009 the U.S. Students' Rankings on International Assessments were released and to no surprise other countries are passing us. According to U.S. Secretary Arne Duncan :”… while other countries' students are swimming faster and farther. Our students have stagnated educationally, putting our long-term economic security at risk.” In math, our 15-year-olds' scores now lag behind those of 31countries. In science, our eighth graders' scores now lag behind their peers in eight countries that had also participated in the original assessment. In reading, five countries have improved their performance and surpassed our 4th graders.
So yes Evansville Vanderburgh SPORT Corporation, let us reward those 3 schools that are on either Academic Watch or Probation and tell our students its OK you are failing academically but we will have a green grass in October. EVCS needs a new leadership with longer term outlook that enhances our future generation and propel us to the 21st century and stop our dependence on migrating our technical expertise overseas.

Health care issue

If a Universal Health plan is ago then it’s not a brain surgery to figure out that you only provide it for people that are ABLE to work. This is not an open bank account for lazy people out there.

How about set a limit, if someone is working to provide for their family, and they make below poverty level per their state, then they get free health care PERIOD. Now if the same person makes above poverty and his employer doesn’t provide health care coverage then he/she pay a percentage of their pay to cover cost of health plan (just like everyone else does). No longer Obama & Company raise taxes on rest of us who pay for health care thru their employer.

On another note, how do Obama & Company except for doctors to provide health care if he is driving them out of business? Only conclusion I have is Obama is being surrounded by lawyers who only care about their bottom line. If you expect doctors to take a hit on payment reduction then in return you stop those “pain/suffering” lawsuits that gets out of hand. PUT A LIMIT. You will have either doctors migrating from one State to another (just like between KY & IN, where IN has limit on malpractice lawsuit & KY doesn’t) or have less people going to medical field because it’s costly. What’s next subcontract our healthcare to India & Mexico for cheap labor?

PS. For everyone that says Universal care is “Socialist” what do you think of Social Security, Medicare & Medicate? Why those people don’t cry wolf?

Israeli Settlement and double standard!

So here is a headline from AP (7/21/09):
Israeli official: US should honor past deals

“JERUSALEM – Israel's deputy prime minister said Tuesday that U.S. calls for a freeze on West Bank settlement construction run counter to past agreements between the two nations and could undermine U.S. credibility.
The comments by Dan Meridor underscored the growing rift between Israel and the U.S. over construction in the settlements. Meridor, a respected veteran of Israeli politics, is considered a moderate voice in the new Israeli government.” & “Israeli officials and former White House official Eliot Abrams have cited a series of written and oral understandings reached with the Bush administration that appear to permit limited settlement construction.
Speaking to foreign reporters, Meridor, who is one of six deputy premiers under Netanyahu, said it was important for these understandings to be honored. Otherwise, it would raise questions about the legitimacy of future agreements, he said.
"We never had an agreement with the previous administration. We had an agreement with America," he added. "The agreement we had with the Americans is binding on us and them ... They should keep to the agreement." “

I have to admire Israel for their ability to change history. So when they please they cry wolf and say not fair America has to go by what we agreed on, but we will not agree on anything the world asked us to do!!

HELLO, who is the dumb person that actually thinks this would fly, oh wait if I said that that means I’m anti-Semitic for not kneeling to Israel every demand.
Where is Israeli leaders when United Nation issues a resolution to withdraw from West Bank (it is still considered an occupied territory).

Let us see:

1) Resolution 465: the issue of the Israeli settlements and administration in "the Arab territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem". This refers to the Palestinian territories of the West Bank including East Jerusalem, Gaza Strip and the Golan Heights.

2) Resolution 478: declared Israel's 1980 "Jerusalem Law" null and void and required that it be rescinded forthwith while affirming that it was a violation of international law. This resolution called upon member states to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city. The law declared Jerusalem to be Israel's "eternal and indivisible" capital.

I could go on and list other resolutions but why would this matter if the country thinks it can walk on water, or for that matter “split” the red sea in half and say it’s not enough.
If Israel except other nations to go by previous agreements then Israel has to abide by the same international rules that govern other nations.

"Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, are illegal and an obstacle to peace and to economic and social development [... and] have been established in breach of international law."

What are they thinking?

Ok so the Republicans lost it all and instead of trying to figure a good strategy to gain back the presidency, house, senate etc. they run around with chickens that lost their heads.
Entertain me for a second here:
Rush Limbaugh, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! One of the most prejudice people I have ever listened to is a spoke person for Republican. This guy is far off RIGHT it’s not even funny, I thought being a KKK member and burning crosses is thing of the past.
Sarah Palin, ARE YOU KIDDING ME! She is considering running for presidency in 2012. President of what? She probably doesn’t know what USA means. How can you even think of being a leader of the free world (emphasis on WORLD) if you haven’t travelled all over and experienced different cultural and new ways of doing things. Does she thinks because John McCain made the biggest gamble in his life and stupid one for that matter by appointing her a running VP she has a chance? HELLO wake up from your sleep Sara, McCain lost the election by HUGE margin because you opened your mouth. Imagine if you run for president, the Republican party will cease to exists.

Is this a big Republican joke, Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh are the new face of this party? It’s not April’s fool’s day or is it?
I would like to see a balance in this country we can’t have Democrats running the show and we can’t have also Republicans running the show. What this country needs is a stale mate between those two parties. This way not much damage can be done i.e. sending us to un-warranted wars or running a huge deficit.
Republicans, you need to join the rest of the world in the 21 century and stop living in the past, you can have your values and be on the right without being an idiot.

Good luck to all

Economy round two

It has been a while since I wrote on here. Maybe it’s of lack of news, seems like same BS every-day.
Reason I’m back it’s the lovely government taking a big hand in the Auto industry and previously the banking!
What is going on with this country? Have we changed to socialist regime?
There is a difference between lending a hand and actually having a majority control in a public business.
GM for example (or what’s being referred to Government Motors) will be under Obama & Co control (60%), the secured debtor will get the short end of the stick and UAW will own a good chunck!! EXCUSE ME, but what is going on here? Why would anyone lend $$ to any company now if government can come in and say “Sorry about your luck” we own it and you get NUTTIN!!
If a company can’t survive on its own then let it fail, one might argue what about all those people that will lose their jobs! HELLO look how many are losing their jobs and dealers closing. BUT if for example GM shuts down, then other car companies will step in to fill the void and produce better cars and hire the best people from GM to produce what consumers wants.
If a company not welling to change then why keep it on life support? Pull the plug. Not only will the strongest survive but the one more adaptable to change with the environment will prosper.

Fun facts from observing people

A fun fact from observing people during my travels, next time you are out notice the following:
When you go to a restaurant, airport, or any place that has tables and chairs, people of all walks of life will gravitate to the dirties table!
I still have not figured that one out or pin point what gravitate people to that.

MAYBE, it is the herd mentality!
If someone was here then this place must be good and therefore I want to be part of it. Just like people standing in-line for a cheap burger, is it truly worth your time to be in line for that, or to save a cent on gas you drive across town and stand in line with other cars burning more gasoline in process (not mentioning the drive to the other side of town)

Is that why we have leaders and followers?
Since the majority of people are followers maybe that is why the herd mentality, use a dirty table (if it was a good choice another person then it’s good for me), stand in long line for an event, restaurant or bar. Night clubs use this tactics to give the illusion that their place is busy, by having people stand outside for x amount of time before letting them inside.
Try this exercise, when you out dirty a certain table but not too much it’s disgusting, in a way that you have crumbs everywhere, then move to another table and watch people gravitate to that table. Too funny.

How about in the airplane when it lands, almost everyone jumps out of their seat as if their luggage in the over head is going to run away or for some miracle reason their plane is going to leave while they still inside. It’s my favorite part watching the herds run on top of each other trying to be the first ones out of the plane, where in fact if they did it in orderly fashion it will go faster.
Try this exercise, next time you travel relax on your seat, let people “stamped” on each other trying to get out, but guess what because you took your time, you will pass every single one after you exit the plane. It’s the idea of being so busy that their minds stops functions and can’t comprehend their surroundings. You on the other hand took your time and didn’t rush therefore didn’t worry about it. Of course some people (I have been there too), you would have to run to catch your other flight that you have to run, few and in between.

Best of them all when people line up for hot ticket item, as life would cease to exists if they were not the first ones to have it on their block.
Think iPhone craze; look at the lines of people that formed to have the first phone!
What were they thinking?
My opinion they weren’t, they were following the rest of the herd with the shepherd (Apple) leading the flocks of sheep to buy their product.
What was it so appealing to those masses to plunge and buy one that is not subsidized and with 2 year contract?
Easy answer: people require leaders to tell them what is good and what is bad for them. Apple took the lead, yes their phone had a “cool” factor the touch screen being first in class, but touch screens where not something new. They were around since the first Palm phone was introduced. Marketing personal at Apple to me are one smart cookies.
Think about it what did the iPhone bring to the people that bought?
Fame, Fortune, Made their life easier, did it organize their life (heck Black Berry & Palm had better organizers), cool games (oh yeah the shaking baby is a cool one, but glad Apple took it off the market). Don’t get me wrong Apple is a great company, they market their products in a way no other company can, their products might be easier to use for people that are technologically impaired, that’s great we need products like that. BUT why stand in line?
I’m sure we all see this on our daily life and wonder, what are they thinking?

Do leaders go off the beaten path and choose a different table a different line or is there another line for leaders that only few privileged to?

Double Life

What makes us ticks?
Is it the small things or the big things? Just wrong time of day or month? Do the Stars have to align right?
Looking at everything one doesn’t stop but to wonder how people think and do things, why some people look at small none harmful lie “white lie” as acceptable even-though there was no reason to even tell a lie, example, someone ask you where you from? Most people would say I’m from Indiana, Ohio etc., but others would mention a different place that they are actually from! Why? What purpose that had in deceiving a simple question?

My own gut feeling thinks that some people thrives on the idea of being mysterious and to them living a double life is as exciting as living one life.
I guess a clandestine life is an appealing life to some people, a life created by James Bond movies that shows the rich & famous life mixed with secrecy & excitement. When someone creates a double life, he or she wants the illusion to think they are in control of the situation well at least of the life they have created to themselves. One might succeed in that endeavor until two things happen:
  1. He/she get bored of life created that they will drop out completely from that life and disconnect from any person associated with the “illusion” life and create another one that carries with it all the newness and excitement.
Get so involved in the second life that it takes over the other one.
  2. We all need to dream, but some dream manifest to reality, we need to take control of those and differentiate between what we can and can not do.

Until next thoughts …. Have fun

Can we Have Peace in the Holy Land

A simple plan:
1) Refugees issues:
a. Get compensated for the lost land they had and compensatory damages similar to
what Jews got paid for the holocaust.
b. Granted citizenship of the country they reside in
c. Have no legal rights to return
2) Jerusalem:
a. Be a country within a country similar to the Vatican in Rome
b. Ran by all three major religious group with a head person and two deputies and
alternating every x years
3) Palestinian living in Israel:
a. Give up the right of having a state within Israel, WAKE UP “Hamas” & “Fatah”
war been lost
b. Israel with its claim as being the most democratic nation (nice joke), give the
Palestinian a full Israelis citizenship and full rights like the rest of the Israelis
population and assimilate them into the country.
c. Remove the wall being built, if East and West Germany can do it why in the 21
century we are doing segregation? Once the majority of Palestinian prospers they
will turn against the bad apples.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Before anyone gets on me for being “anti-Semitic” please review this page for the meaning of this word at:
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/semites

Also people “Mainly Americans” need to understand the difference between Judaism and Israel.
Simple:
Judaism: is a religion which most intelligent people do not dispute
Israel: is a nation and for all purposes it considers itself a democratic nation and therefore criticizing nation polices is something allowed by all democratic nations.

Reason I mention this; it happened not on one occasion but many times and not in small town USA but even larger cities.
I get asked: where I’m from? To me this refers to a place, therefore when I mention Jordan or Palestinian origin I get an odd look and question is asked again!!!
Then finally I get asked if I’m a Jew!!!!
Only explanation I can come up with is that maybe to American since there is Jerusalem (pronounced JewRusalem) then they assume a Jew is a city or a nation. Unless someone can give me a better explanation I’m sticking with that one.

AP News --- A proof that Israel is a democratic state NOT

Fri Apr 3, 10:34 am ET
JERUSALEM – Two women serve in Israel's new Cabinet, but some Israelis would rather not see them.
Newspapers aimed at ultra-Orthodox Jewish readers tampered with the inaugural photograph of the Cabinet, erasing ministers Limor Livnat and Sofa Landver.
Ultra-Orthodox newspapers consider it immodest to print images of women.
The daily Yated Neeman digitally changed the photo, moving two male ministers into the places formerly occupied by the women.
The weekly Shaa Tova simply blacked the women out, in a photo reprinted Friday by the mainstream daily Maariv.
No response was available from the two papers.
During the election, campaign posters featuring female candidate Tzipi Livni were defaced near ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods.

Economy and where we go from Here?

I’m becoming to believe no matter how much billions are being pumped in the market by the current administration nothing will happen…. UNLESS why would bank lend $ to a business if they know the market is not moving, and in return why would people want to spend their hard earned cash if they think market not going to stabilize.

One radical thinking would be: halt the Stock market trading for a year! Freeze all stock trading, no more long or short, highs and lows. If a company wants to raise capital sell bonds. In other words public companies become close to being private companies not able to raise capital thru stocks.
What about 401K, pension plans etc some would cry out. All that cash would be directed to money market accounts or buying corporate/government bonds.
By doing so, companies would be relived of a year to improve their out-looks increase sales, people psyche about stocks up and down would diminish, values at the retirement accounts would freeze for a year and cash would be “horded” until next year. This would get people into living their lives spending their cash and get the economy rolling.

Another radical idea, get the almost Trillion dollar in form of vouchers to every American that filed taxes. (Translates to over $3000/person)
The vouchers would be used within a year period (during the stock market freeze), for products and services that would require those products and services to move from one US region to another.

Finally, Government needs to make sure to convey the massage of everything will be OK and not DOOM

Pros for ideas:
1) Stopped the daily news about new market crashes
2) Got people thinking of future
3) Spending starts with vouchers being redeemed
4) After 12 months, all this cash that been setting on the side, can be reinvested in various stocks which will get the marketing humming with new capital
Cons:
1) The fear of frozen stock market will drive people in droves to their banks to withdraw their cash. Hoard mentality.
2) Vouchers are not invested to their intended purpose
3) Failures of few banks, but then again that is capitalism and weak sectors needs to be reset
4) People close to retirement are most vulnerable in this, with frozen stocks and taking a year to implement 1 trillion in spending
